About Me
Growing up, I was the type of kid that wanted to do everything. I rarely gave the same answer when people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up because I had such a wide range of interests. The wide ranging interests and adventurous spirit have remained over time, and I have a wide range of professional experiences in the customer/social services sector to go along with that. I recently opted to make a career change and pursue my passion for all things tech and packed up and moved to San Antonio, TX from my home state of Wyoming in order to attend a full-stack web development program at Codeup. During four quick months in the course, I put in over 536 hours learning HTML, CSS, UI/UX and mobile responsiveness, Javascript, Jquery, AJAX and API implementation, PHP, mySQL, OOP, and the MVC framework Laravel. I finished the program in November, 2016 and am looking forward to joining a development team using Agile methodologies while working towards mastering my current skill set and continuing to develop as a programmer by learning new javascript libraries and additional programmaing languages.
Experiences
Upon completion of the Codeup LAMP-J program in November 2016, I was asked to come back as a Student Fellow and assist a future cohort in the classroom.
In this position I assist the Codeup instructors and staff with classroom instruction, record keeping, and other miscellaneous projects. Additionally, I work with current students in class and during study halls, as well as providing mentorship and support outside of the classroom. I have also had the opportunity to further develop my programming skills by learning Java and the Spring Framework.
Work in a Direct Support capacity in a group home for adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Had a full spectrum of responsibilities ranging from keeping track of individual client schedules and providing transportation, to physical assistance with personal hygiene and medication administration, to teaching basic life skills in the home such as cooking, cleaning and personal relationships.
In this position I developed excellent communication skills, as well as reinforced previously learned teaching techniques and relationship development skills. Additionally, I observed client behaviors, progress and accomplishments and maintained and updated client records while ensuring HIPPA compliance. I also was a volunteer representative for the company wide safety committee that worked to evaluate and improve client and staff safety.
Worked closely with the school's IT department by taking calls from instructors on campus and routing work orders to appropriate individuals in the department. Covered the help desk and help line phones and assisted students with technical support inquiries regarding the school's web portal for classes. Assisted and trained lab patrons with computer and software usage.
Taught children (ages 3-6) how to ski. Provided instruction in the safe use of all equipment and safety on the mountain. Developed teaching techniques and excellent teamwork skills as the instructors worked closely with each other.
Work on an as needed basis, answered phones and directed calls, opened, sorted, and routed mail, answered correspondence and prepared outgoing mail. Provided assistance in the office and in court as needed.
